About the Artist

While the childhood fantasy worlds, memories of fairy garden parties and full moon gnome sightings have vanished through the years; the whimsical notion and love of fairies and fantasy are kept alive through the original artwork of California-based artist, Erin Watt-Hogan.

Growing up primarily in the rural foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Erin spent most of her time exploring the nearby woods, planting fairy gardens with gathered seeds and saplings, reading Fairy Tales and painting and sculpting in her attic art studio. Erin started drawing and painting at a very young age, often drawing fairies, frogs and mermaids or scenes from her favorite fairy tales.

The surreal and vibrant energy of Erin’s artwork can be attributed to her love of nature, fantasy and the uninhibited innocence of the childhood imagination. Erin earned her Bachelors Degree in Journalism with a minor in Fine Art from California State University, Sacramento in 1998. Later, she integrated the non-verbal communication and the healing properties of art, earning her Masters Degree in Communication Studies from San Diego State University the spring of 2003.

The concept of passionate creation (or “soul storming”) is a continuous and driving force in her life.  Raising her children has been another part of the inspiration behind her artwork.  The discoveries of finding acorns, seeds, leaves and found objects on nature walks and gardening have provided endless inspiration.  Each fairy, gnome, and animal is influenced and referenced from a living child in her life.  The process of creating each piece is surrounded by music (usually ‘Dead Can Dance,’ ‘Loreena McKennitt,’ ‘Sigur Ros‘ and other intrinsic performers), blessed sage burning and the solace of her cozy home art studio.

Erin is currently working on finishing her MS in Psychology, BCBA Certification, works in Behavioral Intervention and provides one-on-one ABA therapy with Special Needs children. She plans on publishing her children’s book after completing her board exams and continues to sell artwork on her online store, “Purple Eggplants” on  Erin lives happily-and-singily-ever-after in San Diego with her two children.
