“East of the Sun, West of the Moon” W.I.P.
(Too bad my mini novella was accidentally deleted via Droid….agh! I have Droid-rage!…an Erinism regarding techie gadget issues).
Anyhow…I digress. I forgot to share the rough sketch of my Work-in-Progress (aka WIP) of my original illustration for my ‘Fairy Tale Fantasy’ series. “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” has always been one of my favorite fairy tales growing-up. My mother and sister also share my love for this particular story. If we REALLY read fairy tales with an adult ‘lens’, we can notice the almost erotic, symbolic references present in most original stories. I am not talking about the “Disney-fied” kid-friendly versions, but the old, unedited versions.
Perhaps I am a little too into this genre, but I feel there is a reemergence of the whole Fairy Tale concept to go back to the romantic, yet innocent origins of our literature. I personally think we, as a culture, have been bombarded with formulaic, trite movie plots and books (minus a few classics, such as “Harry Potter,” “The Hunger Games,” and other unique series) and yearn for a world of mysticism, imagination and depth.
I will be updating my illustration this weekend between playing fairy owl fae at the Fall Ren Faire, mommy hood, domestic diva duties and late night studio sessions. Happy Friday!
